Worthing Homes has provided ‘a home’ for The Community House project since 2007. They knew that by donating a dwelling for use as a community centre and a base for activities, good outcomes would be realised over time. And so it has – The House has not only thrived and prospered but was awarded a £500K grant by the Big Lottery Fund in 2009.
The House provides fun activities, classes, advice, information and one-to-one support for communities in East Worthing. The focus of the House grew from working with children and young people and has, in recent years, extended and developed into running other kinds of community activities and groups – including those for adults – alongside advice, support and information for individuals.
Day 1 have recently edited and formatted an independent evaluation report which shows how the house is really making a difference to people’s lives.
Day 1 helped create the award submission and are currently working on a further Big Lottery grant submission to support the Community House for the next 5 years. We have just heard that we have successfully made it through stage 1!!

What they do is unique. They are true community champions. I have experienced policing in a number of different town and cities within Sussex and I am unaware of anyone else who is serving their community in a similar vein.”Martin Pattendon
